Around the Sound: Dredging project coming up in Everett

By Seth Preston, communications manager, Toxics Cleanup Program

The Port of Everett is gearing up for a dredging project this summer under the Puget Sound Initiative (PSI)

This is likely the final step in the cleanup at the Everett Shipyard site in Port Gardner Bay. It’s one of 11 PSI cleanup sites in Everett.

This project will accomplish a number of things.
  • It's another step in the campaign to clean up, improve and protect the Sound.
  • It will remove contaminated muck that poses risks to the environment and people.
  • It will provide short-term jobs during the cleanup.
  • And it will help foster some long-term economic opportunities as part of the port's plans for waterfront improvements.
All together, this and the other PSI projects in Everett will improve the local quality of life. They also illustrate the "environment, economy, community" relationship in action.
