Fecal Matters: Port Ludlow Bay CLOSED to Water Contact Recreation, Jefferson County

BEACH Program Update


On March 11, 2016 Jefferson County Public Health issued a "No Contact" health advisory for Port Ludlow Bay.  The public is advised to avoid any contact with the water in Port Ludlow Bay.  The closure is due to an obstructed storm water culvert which diverted storm water and treated sewage sludge to the beach.   The problem was corrected and the closure will be lifted when bacteria results show water is clean.


Contact with fecal contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections, and other illnesses. Children and the elderly may be more vulnerable to waterborne illnesses.

Fecal Matters: Holman Beach CLOSED to water contact recreation, Long Beach, Pacific County

BEACH Program Update


On January 22, 2016, an emergency closure was issued for water contact recreation and shellfish harvest at Holman Beach, near Long Beach in Pacific County.  This beach is closed due to discharge of partially treated sewage.  The sewage treatment plant was overloaded due to heavy rains.  This beach will be sampled for bacteria levels, and will remain closed to water contact recreation until further notice.     

Contact with fecal contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses. Children and the elderly may be more vulnerable to waterborne illnesses.

Fecal Matters: Swim Advisory Issued for Dakwas Beach, Neah Bay, Makah Beach Program

BEACH Program Update


On January 4, 2016, the Makah Beach Program issued a swim advisory for Dakwas Park Beach in Neah Bay due to moderately high bacteria levels in the water.  Staff from the Makah Beach Program will be resampling this beach on January 5th to determine if bacteria levels have dropped.

Fecal Matters: No Water Contact Advisory issued for Thea Foss Waterway and Thea Park, Tacoma, Pierce County

BEACH Program Update

On November 17, 2015 Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department issued a "No Water Contact" health advisory for Thea Foss Waterway and Thea Park.  Due to heavy rains partially treated sewage discharged to the Puyallup River near Commencement Bay.  The public is to have no contact with the water for the next 48 hours.

Contact with fecal contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections, and other illnesses. Children and the elderly may be more vulnerable to waterborne illnesses.

Fecal Matters: No Swimming or Wading Advisory issued for the Thea Foss Waterway, Pierce County

BEACH Program Update

On June 4, 2015 Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department issued a no swimming or wading advisory for the Thea Foss Waterway, near the dock at Johnnys or the Esplanade.  High levels of bacteria found in the water show an increased risk of gastrointestinal illness. This advisory will remain in place until Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department sampling shows bacteria levels are safe.

Contact with fecal contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses. Children and the elderly may be more vulnerable to waterborne illnesses.

Fecal Matters: Swimming Advisory issued for Titlow Beach in Pierce County

BEACH Program Update

On January 15, 2015, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department issued a swimming advisory for Titlow Beach in Pierce County. The Health Department is sampling Titlow Beach today and results will be available late tomorrow afternoon.  The advisory is in effect until water samples show water is clean.
