On February 16, 2014, the City of Everett in Snohomish County closed the beaches at Howarth Park and South Terminal Park to swimming. The City will be taking water quality samples today to determine when the beaches can be reopened. The swimming closure was issued in response to a sewage spill at the Everett sewage treatment plant. The public is to have no contact with the water until further notice.Contact with fecal contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections, and other illnesses. Children and the elderly may be more vulnerable to waterborne illnesses.
