Fecal Matters: Swimming Advisory Issued for Owen Beach/Point Defiance Park, Pierce County

BEACH Program Update

On July 23, 2015, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department issued a swimming advisory for Owen Beach/Point Defiance Park. This advisory was issued due to a small sewage spill. Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has posted the beach and are advising people to stay out of the water. They will be removing the signs Friday morning.

Contact with fecal contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses. Children and the elderly may be more vulnerable to waterborne illnesses.

Stay updated about water quality at your beaches by keeping up with us on Facebook, checking beach status on Coastal Atlas, or joining our listserv. Debby Sargeant is the BEACH Program Manager and is available at debby.sargeant@ecy.wa.gov for questions.
