Cleaning Up: A new web focus on Eastern WA sites

By Seth Preston, Communications Manager, Toxics Cleanup Program

We’ve launched a new portal on Ecology’s website for our Eastern Washington Clean Sites Initiative.

We generally chose communities where sites are concentrated, so cleanup work can produce a number of benefits with minimal costs. The portal (shown at right) features the specific sites identified under this initiative.

They’re a mix of sites in Central and Eastern Washington communities, ranging from an old mill site in Cashmere to Spokane River beaches.

Cleanup helps communities

Cleaning up sites like these can have a huge impact in a community. They improve the environment, provide jobs during the cleanup projects, and create opportunities for economic development and other beneficial uses, like public access or open space.

The Legislature and Governor’s Office provided money for this work. The initiative fits Ecology’s priority to “reduce toxic threats” to people and the environment.

Take a look and watch the progress!
