On July 20, 2013, a power failure at a lift station resulted in a sewage spill to Port Gardner Bay in Snohomish County, WA. As a result, signs were posted at Howarth Park and Pigeon Creek beaches warning the public to stay out of the water. Contact with fecal contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections, and other illnesses. Children and the elderly may be more vulnerable to waterborne illnesses.
